The Book-Crossing Dataset consists of ratings from 278,858 users in the Book-Crossing community. It contains 1,149,780 rating data for approximately 271,379 books. The dataset contains 3 categories.

BX-User

Contains user information, where user IDs are anonymized and mapped to integers, and all fields contain NULL values except for the one containing demographic data.

BX-Books

It contains the ISBN identifier of the book. In addition, it also provides content-based information such as the author, publication year, publisher, etc. In the case of multiple authors, only the first author is provided; and the dataset provides a URL linking to the cover image, and the relevant link points directly to the Amazon website.

BX-Book Rating

Contains book rating information, where ratings are divided into explicit, expressed from 1 – 10, and implicit values represented by 0.

This dataset was released by the University of Freeburg, Germany in 2005. The related paper is "Improving Recommendation Lists Through Topic Diversification".
