LFW, the full name of which is Labeled Faces in the Wild, is a face photo database designed to study the problem of unconstrained face recognition.
The dataset contains more than 13,000 face images collected from the Internet. Each face is labeled with the name of the person being photographed. The dataset involves 5,749 people, of which 1,680 have two or more photos in the dataset. The only restriction on these face photos is that they can be detected by the Viola-Jones face detector.
The dataset contains four different sets of images, including original images and three sets of different types of “aligned” images. The aligned images include:
- funneled images” (ICCV 2007)
- LFW-a (using an unpublished alignment method)
- deep funneled” images (NIPS 2012)
