The USGS Global Earthquake dataset is a global regional earthquake compilation based on seismic event data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), designed to provide data for spatiotemporal analysis of seismic activity, regional seismic hazard studies, and educational visualization exercises.

This dataset covers earthquake records from 1900 to 2026. Each file corresponds to a single seismic event and includes standard USGS event fields such as magnitude, origin time, latitude/longitude coordinates, depth, and epicenter location descriptions. Additional geographic fields—such as continent, region, and country—are appended based on coordinate information. This dataset represents a geographically segmented version of the raw global earthquake catalog, saved as separate CSV files by region. Due to USGS monitoring policies, earthquakes outside the U.S. with magnitudes below 5.0 may go undetected or unlocated quickly if they cause negligible damage or are widely imperceptible; consequently, smaller-magnitude events might be underrepresented in this data.
