Exascale computing is the ability to perform at least 10 ¹⁸ A computing system that can perform "exa FLOPS" of IEEE 754 double-precision (64-bit) operations (multiplications and/or additions), which is a standard measure of supercomputer performance.

Exascale computing is a major achievement in computer engineering: first, it can improve scientific applications and prediction accuracy in areas such as weather forecasting, climate modeling, and personalized medicine. Exascale computing also reaches the estimated processing power of the human brain at the neural level, which was the goal of the now-defunct Human Brain Project. There has been a race to be the first country to build an exascale computer, which is usually ranked in the TOP500 list.

In 2022, the world's first public exascale computer, Frontier, was released. As of November 2023, it is the fastest supercomputer in the world.
